Mariano Pieroni was born in Barga (Lu) on 17 June 1937. He lives and works in Solbiate Arno (Va), ideologist of the "Dimensionism" movement, he has been part of historical groups of the Lombard area: ''FREE ARTISTS OF VARESOTTO (LADPDV), From 1952 to 1966 he lived in Florence and attended the studies of Rosai, Grazzini, Conti, the free school of nudity at the Academy of Fine Arts directed by Giorgio Settala. He became a pupil of Silvio Polloni and in 1953-54 of Pietro Annigoni. Among his teachers there are also Ugo Seravalle (first teacher) and Emanuele Zambini (famous sculptor). He met the great Italian-American artist Agostino Nivola during the summer of 1950 and followed his teachings at Villa Pozzolini in Quercianella.After the school of nudity at the Academy of Florence, he moved from his first figurative training to the informal one, adopting various techniques such as "collage" and "frottage". During the Florentine years he attended, among others, the gallery "Numero" of Fiamma Vigo, he met the critic Boatto and Esther Panducci. After the 1966 flood that flooded Florence, he was invited to Belgium, to Liège, and modelled, as a sculptor, the entire collection of the "Andrea Junkers".After about a year he returned to Italy and since then has lived in Solbiate Arno. Since 1970 he has held more than 90 solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad including two in Geneva, three in Paris, two in Hamburg, then Bruxelle, Amsterdam, London, Rotterdam, New York, Boston and Atlantic City. He has won awards and participated in prestigious "collective" events. There is an already vast and articulated Bibliography of "Dimensionism": in addition to monographic works there are publications of articles, reviews, presentations in all the most important Italian newspapers, in various magazines and in foreign newspapers. He has carried out public works including frescoes and sculptures, stained-glass windows, ceramics, works in welded iron, numerous bronzes and poly-material plastic material. His works can be found in Italian and foreign museums. Since 1986 he has been the animator of a group called "Linea confinaria" (plasticoni). Elio Sparano and Rolly Cannara have dedicated two extensive television documentaries on Rai Uno (TG 1 Cronache 1978) to the work of sculptor, ceramist and figurine maker Mariano Pieroni.
